Panoramic films are extraoral films, in which the film is exposed while outside the patients' mouth. A single panoramic film is very useful in detecting and localizing mandibular fractures and other diseases of the mandible and maxilla. Their advantages are to show the upper and lower teeth and jaws on a single film. This assists in diagnosis of many diseases such as infection, impacted thrid molars, bone cysts, TMJ pathology and maxillofacial tumors.
